Prelude to a Beatdown. Caleb Weintraub, 2010.
Detail of Weintraub’s original life-sized mixed media piece, Prelude to a Beatdown.
Oil on canvas. W” x H”.
American contemporary artist Caleb Weintraub (b. 1977) straddles the line between traditional and digital painting, using technology to create magnificently detailed canvases in a computer that are then painstakingly painted by hand. His paintings, installations, and digital prints integrate digital processes with traditional painting techniques to evoke hypothetical realities and dreamlike iterations of the fragmented world in which we live. Weintraub is Associate Professor of Painting at the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design, Indiana University.
